Palermo for me is tomatoes, poverty and chaos

Palermo is the fifth most populated city in Italy, the capital of Sicily, praised in verse books. The city is ambiguous, not understandable the first time, sometimes dangerous and unpredictable. What is he like?
Arriving in Palermo, we turned on the explorer mode and just went where our eyes look. This approach didn’t really inspire my wife Yana, who had a different view of Palermo, but Vladimir Novikov and I clicked a bunch of atmospheric images.
Enjoy your viewing, comments at the end of the article are welcome.
So how does Palermo appear for the first time? Leaving the car in the shade of trees in a relatively safe parking lot near the sea, we set off for the port.

Door handles in Italy and, of course, in Palermo - this is the topic of a separate study. There are millions of interesting details in the city, so creative people here are guaranteed endless inspiration.

An ordinary staircase, but how many textures!

Every door is a masterpiece!

The city is slowly starting to hint that there will be a lot of cool photos.

Looking at the photo, you can instantly imagine that we are in Monaco, but only for a moment.

Peering into the water, we notice that the bay is quite dirty.

Work is in full swing on yachts.

We begin to delve into the city. The farther south, the poorer Italy and the more religious the population. Saints meet on every corner.

Such a LIFE ...

It’s difficult to find the literal translation for the name Drinkeria, but I'm sure you guessed what they were doing here.

I remind you that we actually walk in the center of the city.

Vendesi - for sale, Affitasi - for rent. Now the phrase “in Sicily you can buy a house for 1 euro” sounds not so tempting for you now?

Fishmonger

Cool auto rickshaw.

Swordfish (spada di pesce) is one of my favorite dishes, and Vladimir too. The most delicious is in the restaurant La Piazzetta, which is in Trapani.

Showcase of a butcher shop.

Gambling sellers.

Pretoria Square (Piazza Pretoria) is one of the main attractions of the city.

In the center of the square is a fountain surrounded by baroque churches of the 17th century.

It is an interesting fact that the fountain itself was previously in Florence, where Francesco Camigliani was built in the middle of the 16th century.

Having stood in the capital of Tuscany for almost 20 years, the fountain was disassembled into 644 parts and transported to Palermo.

Most of the statues are nude, which was once defiant for the decent inhabitants of Palermo, so the fountain was called the “Fountain of Shame”.

A rusty but very beautiful door.

On Pretoria Square, he met the chief watchman of the city. In Palermo, everything is calm.

Saints at every turn.

Wandering at random, we ended up in the Arab quarter.

In addition to Italian inscriptions are duplicated in the languages of the population prevailing in the area - in my opinion it is very tolerant.

Saint Rosalia is the patroness of Palermo and all of Sicily. A devout girl from a wealthy family became a hermit and lived in a cave on a mountainside near Palermo, where she died presumably in 1166. Her relics are in the cathedral of the city, which will be slightly lower.

  • If you are in Palermo on July 15, then be sure to look at the solemn procession - the relics of the saint are carried along the streets of the city.

Muhammad is one of the most popular names in Palermo.

Electricians in Palermo are masters of their craft.

Butcher shop.

All life boils in the market.

Natural, incredibly tasty cheeses without GMOs and other additives.

One of the main finds for us is dried tomatoes, which cost only 8 euros per kilogram and are very tasty. In Rome, for example, they cost from 20 euros.

Salon for braiding.

Car mechanic waiting for customers.

Ordinary house.

It is difficult to imagine the purpose of this building, perhaps there was once a newspaper shop.

Vladimir organically fits into the atmosphere of the city.

Scooter is the main means of transportation in Palermo.

Household appliances store.

Parking at the house.

The details in this image can be considered endlessly.

Vladimir risks shooting genre scenes with local residents.

If you speak English or just love beautiful photographs, then welcome to his wonderful travel project.

Graffiti and a local resident.

Playground, benches and even a mattress for parents.

Soccer field.

Multifunctional parking-dryer near the house.

The local flora.

Crossroads.

Let's take a chance and look into the alleys.

It is in these streets that the real spirit of the city is revealed, but walking here, especially in the evening, is not very safe.

Ok, back to more prestigious areas.

Villa Bonanno is a park in the city center.

Vladimir and palm trees.

The carriage in the square at the main cathedral.

The Cathedral is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, for Sicily it is luxurious, but by Roman standards it is average.

Since there is no work, the locals have plenty of time.
