The film "Great Beauty" received the Golden Globe 2014

In Los Angeles, at the 71st Golden Globe Award, the best films of the year were named. The names of the laureates in 25 nominations became known last night.

Prize "The best foreign film" went to Italian director Paolo Sorrentino (Paolo Sorrentino) for his amazing tape "Great beauty" ("La grande bellezza").

The film went around competitors such as Frenchman Abdelatif Keshish with his "Adel's life"tape "Past", which was directed by Iranian Azgar Fakhardi, The Hunt by Thomas Winterberg (Denmark) and the work of his Japanese colleague Hajayo Miyazaki, who presented the animated film The Wind Grows to the Public Court.

Standing on the stage of the posh Beverly Hills hotel with the festival statuette, Sorrentino hastened to thank everyone for their support and for his victory: “Thank you. I thank Hollywood Foreign Press. Thanks to my friends Umberto, Nicola, Toni, Viola, Daria, Davide, Luca. And thanks to my wife Daniela and my children, Anna and Carlo. Thanks to Italy. This is a crazy but beautiful country. Thank you very much".

As Sorrentino had previously stated, his film is dedicated to his friend Giuseppe d'Avanzo, who died during the filming of the film.

The prestigious Golden Globe Award has not been awarded to Italian directors and their films for more than 14 years.

In 1989, the tape was recognized as the best foreign film of the year. "New Cinema" Paradiso " ("Nuovo cinema Paradiso"), filmed by the famous Giuseppe Tornatore (Giuseppe Tornatore).

Later, the film was awarded the Oscar, and also was a laureate of the Cannes Film Festival. Unfortunately, the film Sorrentino will not be able to qualify for an Oscar - its release took place later than the deadline set by the Film Academy.

As for the other winners of the Golden Globe Award, the best drama of the past year was the film directed by Steve McQueen “12 Years of Slavery”, which tells about the true and heart-rending story of an African American who was sold into slavery in the USA.

The title of best comedy film was awarded the picture American Scam directed by David O'Russell. Leonardo di Caprio was named the best actor in a comedy film or musical for his role in The Wolf of Wall Street, and Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) took home the award for the best actor in a drama film.

The first Golden Globe Award was first awarded in 1944, and since then, the best directors, films and actors have been awarded at it from year to year. Winners are determined by a vote of 90 international journalists living in Hollywood. Many claim that the Golden Globe Award is as prestigious as the famous Oscar. Since 1950, "the best films in non-English language" were awarded at this award. In the same year, this honorary title went to the Italian painting "Bicycle Thieves" ("Ladri di biciclette") directed by Vittorio de Sica.

The nomination "Best Foreign Language Film", in which Sorrentino won, originates from 1987. Previously, the award was called "Best Foreign Film." Today, the best tapes shot in any language other than English can participate in the nomination for this award.

Over the years, Italian directors have been awarded this honorary prize. So, in 1966, Federico Fellini won the nomination for his first color tape, Giulietta degli spiriti. 1978 was successful for the famous Italian director Ettore Scola (Ettore Scola) for his film "Unusual Day" ("Una giornata particolare"). And finally, as mentioned earlier, in 1989 the award returned to the country: it brought Giuseppe Tornatore.
