Naples Airport: Basic Information

Naples International Airport (IATA code - NAP) is located approximately 5.9 km northeast of the city center, in the territory belonging to the San Pietro Paterno district and the satellite city of Casoria.

San Pietro Paterno once bore another name - Capodichino. That is why it is also often called naples airportofficially named after Hugo Newtto - a native of the city, an aviator and a hero of the First World War.

Naples Airport annually serves about 5.5 million passengers

At the beginning of the XX century, on the site of the modern airport, there was a training ground - Marsovo Pole, where the first airplanes were tested, and in 1910 a military airfield was opened.

During the Second World War and until 1950, the US Air Force aircraft were based here. In 1950, Naples airport received civilian status, and only the Italian Air Force maintenance center remained from the military airfield.

Currently, the airport is in a long-term lease from the British holding BAA. As early as 2000, a new passenger terminal (round-the-clock) began operating, at the opening of which Prince Charles was present. The old terminal serves only charter flights from 6:00 to 23:30.

Naples airport annually serves about 5.5 million passengers of local and international flights and is one of the ten busiest airports in Italy (8th place). The geography is vast: from Sharm El Sheikh to New York. Several flights depart daily from Moscow and Kiev to Naples. There are seasonal and charter flights from St. Petersburg, Novgorod, Lviv and other CIS cities.

Buses from Naples Airport

Back in 2013, the usual municipal buses ran from Naples airport to the city - both day and night. Since 2014, passengers have been served only by the red and white ANM Alibus shuttle. These Buses from Naples Airport go through Piazza Garibaldi, which is not far from the central station, to Piazza Munisipio, near the port.

Since 2014, only the red and white Alibus shuttle has been serving passengers

The first shuttle leaves at 6:00, the last at 23:45. Interval of movement - 20-30 minutes. You should not relax: because of traffic jams, strikes, and on less important occasions, buses are often late. The fare is € 5 (2019). Tickets can be bought at a bus stop or from the driver.

There are intercity buses from Naples airport of various transport companies, following to Salerno (2 routes), Avellino, Capua through Caserta, Battipaglia and Rome.

A bus from Naples to Benevento and back (EAV Bus) also goes through Naples Airport. For only € 10 you can reach Salerno via Castellammare de Stabia. It is easy to distinguish this bus from the Alibus shuttle by the colorful Curreri Viaggi inscription on a red and white background.

Taxi from Naples Airport

To find taxi from naples airport can be at the exit of the terminals. However, it is not worth diving into the first car that comes across. Firstly, the overwhelming majority of Italian taxi drivers cannot boast of basic knowledge of English, and secondly, a rare taxi driver will miss the reason to break the price for a newly arrived tourist.

Moreover, this "hall" can happen and very imperceptibly for the traveler. Outwardly, everything can look decorum and noble - the included counter lulls vigilance.

You can find a taxi from Naples airport at the exit of the terminals

Nevertheless, you should not relax: in many Italian cities (and Naples is no exception) there are special tariffs for routes from the airport, which are much more modest than what a taximeter can wind up. And if you do not know about this in advance, then you can fly into a pretty penny.

It may be more reasonable to order a taxi directly to your hotel through an online service. Often this is cheaper than finding a car on the spot, and certainly eliminates the need to worry about Italian skills and the opportunity to explain the details of the route to the driver.

In addition, this allows you to know the exact fare in advance and not worry that the driver will begin to haul you in circles in the hope of "grabbing excess."

As a rule, a meeting with a car driver takes place at the exit from the baggage claim area, however, more complete details of the meeting and trip are duplicated by the service on the passenger's e-mail. More details about the order service taxi from naples airport (and not only) online can be found here.

Car hire at Naples Airport

You can also get from Naples airport to the final destination using a rented car: more than a dozen European and local distributors work at the airport.

But trying to find something really suitable by storming the rental offices right after arrival is an ungrateful task: the prices and conditions of neighboring distributors can differ very dramatically. This is especially felt in the season when car hire at naples airport can change almost daily.

Car rental conditions at Naples airport may change almost daily

You can solve the problem of choice with the help of the popular European rental car price comparison service Rentalcars. The system online monitors all changes in the databases of the largest distributors, allowing you to filter offers in any of the 6000 car rental locations (including Naples Airport) in a matter of minutes around the world.

A feature of Rentalcars is that the conditions of all car rentals are systematized according to a single system. This allows you not only to immediately find the best deal, but also to see the "pitfalls" that are not striking when you study the rental conditions yourself: limited free mileage, limited insurance, etc.

In addition, the system allows you to instantly book your favorite option, thus freezing the price.

For example, we puzzled the system by searching for a car for 10 days. The best offer in Rentalcars database at the time of search - Fiat Panda for 16 Euro per day:

If you wish, you can take something more interesting, roomy or colorful - it will come out slightly more expensive:

Have a nice trip
