Evening Rome: a walk in the Trastevere district, photos

On a cool November evening in Rome, I would like to recall a warm October. Today, we, dear readers and friends of our site, take a walk through one of the most authentic areas of the Eternal City. Trastevere, or in Russian "district" gained popularity among tourists about 10 years ago, when restaurants and bars began to open in it one by one. Previously, the area was inhabited by ordinary workers, and in ancient times it was located outside the city wall.

Narrow streets are also a huge parking problem. Naturally, a scooter, or in Italian "motorino" has become the most popular means of transportation for the Romans. A very typical picture for Rome.

If we talk about pets, then local residents can often be found with dogs. But the symbol of Rome, without a doubt, is the cat. In souvenir shops you can find many postcards with cat-themed themes, but meeting a real homeless cat in Rome is a great success. Many years ago, when I began to get involved in photography, the theme of KOTAfot was very popular. One of my works “And I'm Walking, Walking the Earth” even became a winner in the “Pets” category on many photo sites.

Every cat that has lost its owner in the Italian capital very soon ends up in a shelter for cats, which is located on the Largo di Torre Argentina square. The meeting with this red cat was very pleasing to me. See how harmoniously it fits into this authentic look.

Wooden shutters are designed to save residents from the unbearable heat, which reaches its peak in July-August.

We started our walk in Trastevere after dinner in one of the best Roman restaurants in terms of price / quality ratio Carlo Menta. Walking along Via della Lungaretta, we ended up in St. Mary's Square. In the center is a small fountain, not as popular as the Trevi Fountain, but much more comfortable. Here the local people hang out.

The rich orange color of buildings just blows up the brain.

In the season from March to October, finding a free place in a restaurant is not easy. Restaurants open from 12-13 hours and work until almost midnight.

Despite the fact that the end of October is in the yard, it is impossible to resist ice cream tasting.

There are many places in Rome where you can buy delicious ice cream. These are both small private matter and brand networks. One of the highest quality bulk materials, in my opinion, is the Blue Ice network. On Trastevere, this matter is located at: Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere, 4, Roma.

For 2-3 euros you will become the owner of a large and very tasty portion.

Each restaurant has its own spirit and atmosphere. It is impossible to pass by such beauty.

I am sure everyone is interested in learning about prices in such beautiful, not major, but very atmospheric restaurants. Dinner for 2 people with antipasti, one main course and wine, as well as dessert and coffee last will cost you 50-60 euros. Bread in most cases is brought free of charge, and gratuities are included in the bill. The portions are large, and I do not advise, according to the Russian tradition, to order immediately the first, second and third.

Most apartments on Trastevere have a fairly modest area, and property prices are among the highest in Europe. Own balcony for residents of the area is a luxury, so you have to dry clothes in the old fashioned manner, including ingenuity.

Trastevere is a tourist area and modern townspeople prefer to live a little aside. But the older generation is still often found here. Like most Romans aged, they spend evenings at their homes for leisurely conversations.

90 percent of the Roman car fleet is a small car, you have no chance of finding a parking lot on a big cool car.

Like in a dream.

Vintage Junk Shop

The store is called douze and is located at Via del Cipresso 12, 00153 Roma, Trastevere.

Do you think the foliage here steals the light and prevents the guests of the capital from enjoying the evening? For this, I adore Trastevere - everything old, illogical, but at the same time so high.

In Rome there are more than 1000 churches, and all, unlike most European churches, are given to tourists. Often they are so harmoniously blended and merge with the surrounding buildings that they do not immediately catch the eye.

In Tabacchi you can buy a lottery, transport tickets, top up on your phone and, of course, cigarettes. Although tobacco products cannot be bought in ordinary stores, Italians smoke a lot.

So, having made a small circle in the area, we were on the waterfront.

Once they told me a legend about a man who crossed the Tiber. The river itself is not so wide, but imagine how to declare in a friendly conversation: "But here I am, the Tiber was swimming in Rome." That sounds! Yes, and not everyone knows the width of the river, but Rome, by definition, is associated with something grand. And the native is wary, because the Tiber is not such a clean river, and personally I would not envy the one who bathes in it. As you can see in the photo below, some even manage to fish here.

My wife and the editor-in-chief of the site are immensely glad for such a pleasant evening.

The promenade overlooks the dome of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. You can walk to the Vatican by walking in 20-25 minutes, and you can get around it in just an hour.

If you are going to Rome, be sure to take the time to walk along Trastevere. Here you will feel the atmosphere of the Eternal City and always have a tasty meal.

How to get to the Trastevere district ?:

  • By tram number 8, 5 minutes from Piazza Venecia (Altar of the Fatherland)
  • On foot, 15 minutes by tram with Piazza Veneсia
  • On foot, 25 minutes from the Vatican
